In a major push to boost city infrastructure and ease traffic congestion, the Public Works Department (PWD) has chalked out an ambitious road development plan for Lucknow. The proposal includes repairing 1229 roads, building 63 new ones, and undertaking reconstruction and widening projects across all eight assembly constituencies of the city.
The plan, aimed at enhancing urban-rural connectivity and commuter convenience, is expected to receive final approval during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on June 30.
All Eight Constituencies to Benefit
As per the draft, every assembly constituency will witness the construction of new roads. The highest number of new roads – 25 – are planned in Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT). Malihabad will get 15, while Lucknow North is slated for 5. These roads will significantly improve connectivity between remote rural zones and urban centres.
Old Roads to Be Rebuilt, Traffic Woes to Be Addressed
The plan also includes the reconstruction of 10 severely damaged roads, including 1 in Malihabad and 9 in Sarojininagar. Additionally, 28 roads have been identified for widening to alleviate traffic bottlenecks. These include:
9 in Mohanlalganj
6 in Malihabad
5 in BKT
2 in Sarojininagar
2 in Lucknow East
1 in Lucknow West
3 in Lucknow North
This is expected to ease traffic flow and enhance road safety across the city.
28 Roads to Undergo Special Safety Repairs
In a bid to prioritize road safety, the PWD has also proposed specialised repairs of 28 roads in compliance with national road safety standards. These interventions are expected to reduce accidents and enhance travel comfort for commuters.
Awaiting Final Green Light
The PWD has submitted the complete roadmap to the state government. The proposal will be reviewed in the upcoming departmental meeting on June 30, chaired by CM Yogi Adityanath. Several key components of the plan are likely to be approved, officials said.
If cleared, this comprehensive road overhaul will give Lucknow’s road infrastructure a significant facelift—providing much-needed relief to residents from potholes, traffic congestion, and poor road conditions. It also aligns with the state government's broader vision of urban mobility and safe infrastructure development.
