Lucknow News: In a major technological leap, Lucknow is set to become the first AI-powered city in India, with a ₹10,732 crore corpus allocated under the IndiaAI Mission, approved in March 2024. The fund will be utilised for the creation of cutting-edge artificial intelligence infrastructure, marking the single-largest tech investment of its kind by any state in the country.

According to officials, the initiative includes the installation of 10,000 Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), the development of multi-modal language models, and the establishment of an AI innovation centre in the state capital. A draft AI policy aligning with Vision 2047 will also be introduced shortly to govern implementation, innovation, and talent development in the sector.

The state claims that this ₹10,732 crore investment is 67% higher than any other technology-based infrastructure initiative across India. It underscores the government's intent to position Uttar Pradesh at the forefront of India’s AI revolution.

AI-Driven Urban Development and Traffic Management

Alongside infrastructure, the government is proposing an AI-enabled smart traffic management system in Lucknow. A similar initiative is already being rolled out in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency. These smart systems are expected to streamline urban transport through real-time data analytics and AI-integrated surveillance.

Additionally, AI-powered tools such as CCTV monitoring, facial recognition, license plate tracking, and emergency alert systems have already been integrated across 17 municipal corporations and Gautam Buddh Nagar. These are directly linked to the 112 emergency helpline and local police control rooms, creating a connected and responsive urban safety network.

AI in Prisons, Agriculture, and Governance

The application of artificial intelligence is also expanding into correctional facilities. The 'Jarvis' AI monitoring system, operational in 70 prisons, enables round-the-clock surveillance of inmates, aimed at enhancing security and incident response.

In agriculture, the UP Agris Project is bringing AI directly into the hands of 10 lakh farmers. Technologies like smart irrigation, drone-based land mapping, pest detection, and digital market access are being rolled out. Notably, 10,000 women-led self-help groups (SHGs) are active participants in this AI-driven rural transformation.

The revenue department is also embracing AI by using satellite imaging and machine learning algorithms for land record management and consolidation, improving transparency and reducing manual errors.
