PM Modi Expresses Grief Over Maha Kumbh Incident in Prayagraj

Expressing his sorrow, PM Modi took to social media and stated, “The accident that happened in Prayagraj Mahakumbh is extremely sad. My deepest condolences to the devotees who have lost their loved ones in this. Along with this, I wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The local administration is engaged in helping the victims in every possible way. In this regard, I have spoken to Chief Minister Yogi ji and I am constantly in touch with the state government.”

Overcrowding Causes Chaos During Mauni Amavasya Snan

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday as millions of devotees gathered at the holy confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers to take a sacred dip on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya. This day marks the Second Shahi Snan, drawing an overwhelming number of pilgrims from across the country.

While initial reports suggested a stampede, authorities later clarified that it was a case of severe overcrowding. SSP Kumbh Mela Rajesh Dwivedi reassured the public, stating, “There was no stampede. It was just overcrowding due to which some devotees got injured. The situation is completely under control. No kind of rumours must be heeded.”

The administration has taken immediate steps to manage the crowd and ensure smooth proceedings for the upcoming Amrit Snan. Officials have urged devotees to remain calm and follow safety guidelines to prevent further incidents.

The Maha Kumbh, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, witnesses millions of pilgrims seeking spiritual purification through the ritualistic holy dip. Authorities remain on high alert to manage the influx of devotees in the coming days.
