Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni has been expelled from the Kinnar Akhara just days after her induction and elevation as Mahamandaleshwar. The decision, announced on Friday, follows a major internal rift within the akhara, with its founder Ajay Das also expelling Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi for appointing Kulkarni in the first place.
Controversy Over Kulkarni’s Appointment
Kulkarni’s appointment as Mahamandaleshwar had sparked significant objections within the Kinnar Akhara. Many members reportedly opposed the move, leading to growing tensions among the leadership. In response to the backlash, Ajay Das took the decision to expel both Kulkarni and Tripathi, further intensifying the internal conflict.
Power Struggle Within the Akhara
The dispute has also led to a power struggle between Ajay Das and Laxmi Narayan Tripathi. Reports suggest that Das had warned of Tripathi’s removal, but Tripathi countered the claim, arguing that Das lacked the authority to make such a decision. The escalating tensions indicate deepening factionalism within the akhara.
Tripathi, speaking to News18 earlier, insisted that all decisions within the Kinnar Akhara would be made with complete transparency. Furthermore, Tripathi claimed that Ajay Das himself had been expelled from the akhara, citing his family ties as a reason. “Das lives with his family and children. They have no place in Kinnar Akhara now,” Tripathi asserted, adding that a press conference would be held at 3 PM on Friday to address the controversy.
Future of Kinnar Akhara Leadership Uncertain
The ongoing dispute has raised questions about the future of the Kinnar Akhara’s leadership structure. With Kulkarni’s expulsion and Tripathi’s contested position, reports suggest that a review of the Mahamandaleshwar role may be underway. Speculation is growing about the appointment of a new leader, as the akhara attempts to resolve its internal divisions.
As the power struggle continues, the controversy surrounding Mamta Kulkarni’s brief tenure as Mahamandaleshwar has exposed deeper issues within the Kinnar Akhara, leaving its leadership uncertain and divided.
