Noida International Airport: Key Security Hurdle Cleared, DGCA License In A Week! Would Delhi’s IGIA Finally Get Decongested?

Noida International Airport: The Jewar Airport is likely to decongest the heavily-burdened Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) where the infrastructure capacity has been steadily outpaced by robust aviation demand. Furthermore, the Noida Airport would signal a vital milestone in the expansion of air connectivity across the Delhi National Capital Region.

Noida International Airport: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation is likely to provide the required aerodrome license to the Jewar International Airport in Jewar.

The mandatory security clearance has been provided to the Jewar Airport from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), according to Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) chief executive officer RK Singh.

The BCAS team examined a series of security components at the Jewar Airport, including but not limited to passenger screening protocols, anti-sabotage procedures, access control systems and surveillance infrastructure to name a few.

However, Singh didn’t specified the exact date from which the International Airport would commence its operations.

Christoph Schnellmann, the chief executive of Noida International Airport, remarked the BCAS clearance is a significant breakthrough in the regulatory journey of the Noida Airport. Schnellmann noted that the BCAS approval allows the Noida Airport to finalize route planning and operational timelines.

Noida International Airport- DGCA Final Inspection Pending

NIAL, which is the government agency overseeing the Jewar Airport project, stated that the next step for the initiation of operations would be a final inspection by the DGCA.

NIAL nodal officer Shailendra Bhatia remarked infrastructure of the airport under the first phase is now all set to effectively handle approximately 12 million passengers every year. Bhatia added that the air traffic control tower, terminal building and runway are now fully ready.

Will Operations Commence From April 2026?

Once the DGCA license is granted, airlines would be allowed to introduce scheduled flights from the Noida International Airport. It is widely expected that the Jewar Airport would commence operations from the month of April 2026.

The Jewar Airport is likely to decongest the heavily-burdened Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) where the infrastructure capacity has been steadily outpaced by robust aviation demand. Furthermore, the Noida Airport would signal a vital milestone in the expansion of air connectivity across the Delhi National Capital Region.
