The upcoming Noida International Airport is rapidly shaping up to be Asia’s largest aviation hub, with major developments underway. A 750-acre land parcel in Yamuna City has been earmarked for setting up a jet engine manufacturing facility. The land will soon be allotted to an engine manufacturing company, marking a significant boost to India’s aviation infrastructure.
More Runways in Phase 3 & 4
As part of its third and fourth phases, two additional runways will be constructed, taking the total number to five. The airport is being designed to showcase the essence of multiple nations—promising to be a global gateway where “every country’s identity” will be visible.
2,000 Hectares to Be Acquired for Expansion
To support this massive expansion, the Yamuna Authority will acquire nearly 1,880 hectares of land from 14 villages, with 120 hectares already acquired. The affected villages include Bankapur, Rohi, Dayanatpur, Parohi, Sabouta, Mukimpura Shivara, Kishorepur, Banwaribans, Jewar Bangar, Ramner, Ahmadpur Charouli, Khwajpur, Thora, Neemka, and Shahjahanpur. Land acquisition processes will begin soon.
Over 9,000 Families to Be Relocated
More than 9,000 families will be shifted to alternate locations as part of the land acquisition. Authorities have already conducted surveys to count men, women, and children in the affected areas. Relocation and rehabilitation procedures will begin shortly. The government has assured that job opportunities will be provided to locals once the airport becomes operational.
Timeline Delays and Deadlines
Initially, the airport was expected to be operational by October 2024, but the revised deadline shifted to April 2024. Although successful aircraft landing trials were conducted in December 2024, full-scale commercial operations are still awaited, and more time may be required.
₹30,000-Crore Megaproject
Being constructed at a cost of ₹30,000 crore, the Noida International Airport is expected to handle 1 to 1.5 million passengers in 2025, scaling up to 8 million by 2026. The first phase alone will accommodate 12 million annual passengers, while the final phase will increase this capacity to 70 million.
Once operational, the airport will boost northern India's air traffic and ease congestion at Delhi's IGI Airport, transforming the region into a world-class aviation hub.
