The Central Government has given its approval for the development of the Electronics Manufacturing Cluster-2 (EMC-2) in the Yamuna Authority area of Uttar Pradesh. This move is expected to generate over 15,000 employment opportunities and drive the growth of small-scale industries, especially vendor and ancillary companies. The development will provide a major boost to local youth in terms of industrial job openings.
This decision follows the Centre’s earlier approval of a semiconductor unit in Greater Noida, highlighting the government’s ongoing focus on making western Uttar Pradesh a hub for electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.
Under EMC-1, Chinese smartphone giant Vivo and its allied companies have already set up units in Sector 24A of the Yamuna Authority area. Vivo was allotted 169 acres of land in 2018, and began production in 2024. In its first phase, the plant is expected to produce 6.5 crore (65 million) mobile phones annually.
Upon completion of all phases, the unit’s capacity will scale up to 14.5 crore (145 million) mobile phones annually. The operation of such a massive facility has also boosted mobile accessories manufacturing in the nearby Noida and Greater Noida regions — including chargers, data cables, earphones, and batteries.
Strategic Impact Across Multiple Sectors
The development of EMC-2 in Yamuna City will significantly benefit manufacturing in key sectors such as:
Electronics
Automotive components
Industrial electronics
Medical devices
Computer hardware
Telecommunication equipment
In addition, the cluster will offer plug-and-play infrastructure for startups and MSMEs, promoting innovation and ease of doing business.
Yamuna City is fast emerging as a high-potential industrial zone. Along with EMC-2, several mega projects are underway, including:
Medical Device Park
Apparel Park
Film City
FinTech City
These sectors will further raise the demand for a wide range of electronics and digital equipment, giving added impetus to the state’s industrialization goals and economic growth.
