Noida News: A high-speed rail project will soon connect Noida International Airport to Ghaziabad, significantly reducing travel time to Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) in Delhi.
Detailed Project Report Finalised
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) meticulously prepared a detailed project report (DPR) outlining the rapid rail connection. This project, also known as the Namoh Bharat/Metro link, will make it easier for passengers to travel between the two airports.
NCRTC Takes Charge of Operations
NCRTC will be venturing into metro operations for the first time by managing the high-speed rail and metro services between Noida Airport and Ghaziabad. This marks a significant step forward for the organization.
Strategic Station Stops and Dedicated Loop
To optimize travel time, the high-speed rail will strategically stop at specific stations along a dedicated loop. Initially, 25 stations are planned, with the possibility of expanding to 38 in the future. The feasibility report and DPR have been slightly adjusted to reflect these details.
Key Stations Along the Route
Here's a glimpse of the planned stops:
- Ghaziabad: Siddharth Vihar, Ghaziabad South
- Greater Noida West: Around Sector-16, Char Murti Chowk, Ecotech-12, Sectors 2, 3, 10, 12
- Surajpur: Knowledge Park-5, Police Line, Surajpur itself
- Other Stops: Malakpur, Ecotech-2, Knowledge Park-3, Gamma-1, Pari Chowk, Omega-2, Pai-3, Ecotech-IE, Ecotech-6, Dankaur
- Yeida: Yeida North Sector-18, Yeida Central (Sectors 21 and 35)
Unified Track for Metro and Rapid Rail
The DPR envisions a shared track between Ghaziabad and Noida Airport, with 11 stations dedicated to the high-speed rapid rail and 14 catering to the metro services. Metro trains will have three coaches, while rapid rail trains will have eight, offering increased passenger capacity.
Special Loop for High-Speed Travel
A distinctive loop will be constructed to facilitate non-stop travel between Noida Airport and IGI Airport. This dedicated track will allow the rapid rail to reach its full speed of 140 kilometers per hour, significantly reducing travel time to just 45 minutes.
Project Timeline and Funding
The 72.2-kilometer elevated route is projected to be completed by 2031 at an estimated cost of Rs 16,189 crore. Funding will be distributed as follows:
- 20% from the central government
- 50% from the state government
- 30% from Noida
The project is expected to attract a growing number of passengers, with ridership projections reaching:
- 2.95 lakh by 2031
- 5.23 lakh by 2041
- 6.32 lakh by 2051
- 6.71 lakh by 2055
