The long-awaited skywalk connecting Noida’s Sector-51 and Sector-52 metro stations is now in its final stage of completion. Officials confirmed that the travellators installed on the skywalk have undergone initial testing, marking a significant step toward operational readiness. The remaining work is expected to be completed within a month, and the skywalk is likely to open to the public after January 15, 2025.

Travellator Installation Completed

The Noida Authority has finished installing the travellators along the 450-metre stretch. The only pending task is linking the skywalk to the NMRC Sector-51 metro station. For this, the Authority has requested the structural drawings from NMRC for the specific section where the structure will connect. Officials said the drawings will be received within a week, after which the connectivity work will be finished within 15 days.

The process for obtaining an electricity connection is also underway and is expected to be completed within a week. Authorities are confident that all remaining work will be finished by late December or early January, clearing the way for the skywalk to be opened to commuters.

Major Relief for Thousands of Daily Commuters

Currently, in the absence of the skywalk, passengers have to walk along the roadside footpath to shift between the two metro stations. Earlier, a free e-rickshaw service was available for this short stretch, but it has been discontinued, causing inconvenience to thousands of daily travelers.

Mahendra Prasad, OSD of Noida Authority, stated that all pending work is being expedited and the skywalk will be operational within January.

Features of the Skywalk

The skywalk, approximately 450 metres long and 6 metres wide, is being constructed to provide seamless connectivity between NMRC’s Sector-51 station and DMRC’s Sector-52 station. Once opened, commuters will no longer need to step down to street level or cross the busy road. Instead, they will be able to switch metro lines via a direct elevated pathway equipped with travellators for smooth movement.

Benefit for Residents and Metro Users

The project is expected to significantly improve last-mile connectivity in Noida’s residential sectors, particularly benefiting daily office-goers, students, and local residents who rely on the metro for intercity travel. The skywalk will also enhance safety by eliminating the need for pedestrians to navigate traffic at ground level.
