Background of the Incident

Tensions in Sambhal escalated from November 19, when the Shahi Jama Masjid underwent its initial survey following a court order based on a petition claiming the site previously hosted a Harihar temple. The situation reached a boiling point on November 24 when a second survey was conducted, leading to widespread violence.

Protesters clashed with the police, pelting stones, burning a police motorcycle, and looting a magazine and cartridges from a police pistol. As a result, four lives were lost, and 29 police personnel were injured during the skirmishes.

The situation in Sambhal remains tense, with law enforcement agencies maintaining a heightened presence to ensure peace and stability. Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm and refrain from actions that could further inflame tensions.

The police are continuing their investigation, focusing on apprehending the remaining accused and identifying the roots of the violence. Meanwhile, the local administration is working to restore normalcy and prevent future clashes in the region.
