The ongoing dense fog and cold wave have disrupted life in the National Capital Region (NCR). The impact of snowfall in the hills is now visible in the plains as well, affecting visibility on highways and GT roads. The lack of visibility has led to incidents of vehicles colliding on the roads. In an effort to cope with the cold, people are resorting to the use of heaters.
Current Scenario
The entire NCR, including Ghaziabad, is reeling under the onslaught of severe cold and fog. The visibility has reduced significantly on highways and GT roads. Incidents of vehicles colliding due to poor visibility have been reported. The open spaces have become virtually invisible due to the cold. Taking note of the situation, the administration has changed the school timings for relief. However, the sun has not been visible in Ghaziabad for the past three days, exacerbating the cold. According to the weather department, there is no relief from the cold in sight, and temperatures are expected to drop further until January 10.
Impact on Transportation
Due to the fog-induced low visibility, the district administration has directed the Roadways bus depot to suspend bus services from 9 PM to 7 AM. Online reservations for night service buses have also been suspended for a month. The maximum temperature has dropped by 5 degrees Celsius in the last three days. According to the weather department, the maximum temperature recorded in Ghaziabad at 2 AM on Wednesday was 14 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature remains stable at this time. The average maximum temperature for the district on Thursday was 15 degrees Celsius, and the average minimum temperature was 6.2 degrees Celsius.
