UP News: No More Long Endless Queues. Ration Card Management Goes Digital in Uttar Pradesh

UP Commissioner of Food and Logistics Department has announced that ration card holders of the state can now add or delete family members to their ration cards with just a few clicks.

UP News: Residents of Uttar Pradesh will no longer have to visit ration card offices to add or delete names in ration cards.

Going forward, people can link their mobile number to ration cards to add or delete family members, remove deceased people from ration cards, and transfer or surrender ration cards with just a few clicks and from the comfort and convenience of their home.

Anamika Singh, the Commissioner of Food and Logistics Department, said the District Supply Officer has been instructed in this regard. Officials will get a maximum of 15 days for disposal of applications else face disciplinary action.

Earlier, people used to stand for countless hours in long queues to get names added or deleted from their ration cards.

Five Lakh Ration Card Holders Found Ineligible

In another development, the Uttar Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Department has revealed that more than five lakh ration card holders were found ineligible for subsidized food grains in a large-scale verification exercise.

5, 03,088 card holders have been confirmed as ineligible, according to an inspector involved in the exercise.

The department said significant discrepancies were found when beneficiary details were matched with income data provided by the Central Board of Direct Taxes. It was remarked by officials that the verification exercise was aimed to ensure only deserving families were able to receive benefits under the Priority Household and Antyodaya schemes.

Under the existing norms, only families earning up to Rs. 3 lakh annually in urban and Rs. 2 lakh in rural areas qualify for subsidized rations.
