UP News: In a bid to enhance road safety awareness, the Yogi government has sanctioned a plan to disseminate messages on road safety through buses operated by the State Transport Corporation. The decision was greenlit during a significant meeting chaired by the Chairman and Principal Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, Mr. L. Venkateshwar Lu. Senior officials from the transport department and the corporation participated in the meeting.

A budget of ₹10 crore has been allocated for this initiative, which aims to raise public awareness on road safety issues across the state. With a fleet of 11,800 buses, including 2,500 buses currently deployed for election duties, the corporation plans to utilize the rear ends of these vehicles to display slogans and messages promoting road safety. The messages will encourage practices such as driving on the correct side of the road, wearing seat belts while driving, abstaining from alcohol consumption before driving, and other road safety measures.

The corporation’s efforts coincide with the ongoing Road Safety Fortnight, which commenced from April 22nd and extends until May 4th. During this period, various activities have been organized to educate people about road safety and traffic regulations. Health and vision camps have been set up near national highways toll plazas to provide check-ups for drivers. Reflective tapes have been affixed on tractor-trailers at toll plazas as part of road safety measures. Additionally, volunteers have been engaged to raise awareness among youths under 18 about the prohibition of driving vehicles and to encourage two-wheeler riders to wear helmets and avoid risky behaviors such as stunt riding, overspeeding, and using mobile phones while driving.
