In a major step towards sustainable public transportation, the Uttar Pradesh Roadways’ modern transport initiative, the E-Atal bus service, is all set to expand further. The latest addition to the network is the Prayagraj–Ayodhya route, which is expected to begin operations shortly. The move is aimed at providing affordable, eco-friendly, and comfortable travel to pilgrims, commuters, and daily travelers alike.

Service Expansion to Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Kanpur

Regional Manager of Prayagraj, Ravindra Kumar Singh, confirmed that E-Atal electric buses will soon start plying between Prayagraj and Ayodhya, marking the first time this long-distance spiritual corridor will be served by electric buses. Following this, the service is also set to expand to major cities like Varanasi and Kanpur.

From Local Shuttles to Intercity Routes

Earlier, in preparation for the upcoming Mahakumbh, 24 E-Atal buses were deployed in Prayagraj for short-distance shuttle services to nearby towns such as Pratapgarh, Sultanpur, Unchahar, Gopiganj, Khaga, Muratganj, Kunda, and Handia—all within a 100-kilometre radius. These services were well-received for their convenience and eco-friendliness.

Encouraged by their success, the UP Road Transport Department has now decided to extend these services to routes up to 200 kilometres, as the E-Atal buses are capable of covering this distance on a single charge. With this range, cities like Ayodhya, Varanasi, and Kanpur are now within the service network’s operational feasibility.

Charging Infrastructure in Place

To ensure smooth operations, charging stations have already been installed on newly launched routes. Recently, E-Atal services from Prayagraj to Lucknow and Robertsganj have also been flagged off. The charging facilities are designed to prevent any technical interruptions during travel, ensuring a reliable and efficient experience for passengers.
