Kanpur recorded the coldest day of the season with the minimum temperature dropping to 2.4 degrees Celsius. The chilling conditions are expected to persist in the state until January 23.

The Uttar Pradesh Meteorological Department has issued red and orange alerts for dense fog and a severe cold wave in various districts. Cities like Baghpat, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Bijnor, Muradabad, Bhimnagar, Bareilly, Rampur, Badayun, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Gonda have been put on red alert, signifying extremely dense fog and intense cold conditions. The alerts extend until January 23, indicating that relief from the cold wave is unlikely in the coming days.

The Meteorological Department predicts that most parts of the state will continue to experience severe cold conditions, with no significant changes in maximum and minimum temperatures until January 23.
