Two Rohingyas, Mohd Arman alias Abu Talha and Abdul Amin, were arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on Tuesday night in the Ballia district's Gandhi Maidan area close to the roads bus stop.
Both of the Rohingyas who had been arrested by ATS and turned over to Kotwali police on Wednesday were brought before the judge and jailed.
Police officials also requested that the court place them on police remand so that they can be investigated further. According to ATS, its field unit had been watching Arman for the previous three years.
Arman of Burma had entered India in 2010
ATS found during its probe that Arman of Burma had entered India in 2010 via Bangladesh. He remained in Ballia by hiding his original identity from 2010 to 2018.
He was able to arrange certain Indian documents when he was in Ballia. In 2015, he also obtained an Indian passport.
With an Indian passport, he travelled to Saudi Arabia in 2018. From 2018 until 2022, he was working in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. According to the ATS, he returned to India in August 2022 and moved in Bardhaman, West Bengal, where he erected a home after buying a plot of land.
Arman began assisting other Rohingyas in attempting to enter Indian
While living in Bardhaman, Arman began assisting other Rohingyas in attempting to enter Indian territory illegally through Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Arman organised phoney documents to portray immigrants from the Rahingya ethnic group as Indian citizens using his connections in Ballia. According to officials, he had travelled to Ballia with a man named Abdul to arrange for the same documents when the Varanasi field unit police arrested the two.
Aadhar cards, two Indian passports, foreign currency, SIM cards from Saudi Arabia, a phone with an Indian SIM card, and other items were among the illegally acquired documents that the ATS also found. Abdul also provided a UNHCR card given to a Rohingya refugee.
