In the last week, an important recognition was made to one of India’s greatest social reformers – Dr. B.R. Ambedkar – when CM Yogi Adityanath unveiled a bust of Ambedkar at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This event serves to highlight Ambedkar’s contribution to India in relation to the great ideals of equality, social justice and constitutional protections provided to all citizens of India.
The Father of the Indian Constitution
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar is known as the chief architect of the Constitution of India, and he dedicated his entire life to reducing the social discrimination faced by India’s marginalized communities, and to providing those people with education and empowerment via social justice. The fact that Yogi Adityanath placed a bust of Dr. Ambedkar at UNESCO also speaks to the fact that Ambedkar’s work is being recognised on a global scale; and a constructive way to solidify India’s commitment to equality and social justice on a global scale is to have Ambedkar’s name associated with such an institution as UNESCO.
Importance of the Installation in UNESCO
The fact that UNESCO has selected an international venue for this event to honor a leading figure for his contribution to society, education, science, and culture as well as the United Nations encourages recognition of this individual throughout the entire world as an important contributor to all countries within UNESCO’s mandate. By placing UNESCO’s statue of DR A.india in its headquarters, CM Yogi Adityanath is reinforcing the significance of DR Ambedkar’s role in advocating for social reform and human rights, both of which are aligned with the core values of UNESCO.
Effects of this Installation on Education and Increasing Social Awareness
This installation of Dr. Ambedkar’s Statue will result in stimulating student interest in learning more about DR. A’s life and contributions to creating a more socially inclusive society. Therefore, the event also provides an opportunity for continued dialogue regarding equality, social justice, and the necessity of education in developing a more inclusive society. In this sense, UNESCO will have officially demonstrated its commitment to aiding and working with all countries across the globe to promote and support cultural diplomacy within India through this event’s celebration of Dr. Ambedkar as an inspirational global leader who advocated for human dignity.
