In a recent update from the Meteorological Department, it has been reported that Uttar Pradesh is set to experience a slight respite from the ongoing cold spell and dense fog starting Wednesday. The arrival of Easterly Winds is expected to bring about a marginal increase in both day and night temperatures, albeit for a brief period, as indicated by a Meteorological official on Monday.

In Lucknow, the dissipation of fog around 11 am brought a welcome change, with the sun breaking through and lifting spirits. However, despite the improvement, the maximum temperature in the city remained at 15 degrees Celsius, marking a deviation of 5.7 degrees below the normal range.

Weather Shifts in Uttar Pradesh Bring Temporary Relief from Cold and Fog

The forecast for Lucknow indicates the persistence of dense to very dense fog in the morning, followed by a mainly clear sky later in the day. A cold day is anticipated, with maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 16 and six degrees Celsius, respectively.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), dense to very dense fog with a visibility of 50 meters is expected in some parts of Uttar Pradesh during the night and morning hours, accompanied by cold to severe cold conditions at isolated places on January 16. However, the Met office suggests a slight easing of the foggy situation on January 17, as mentioned by Mohd Danish, the in-charge of the Meteorological office.

While Lucknow experienced a reduction in fog intensity on Monday, other cities like Aligarh, Hardoi, and Bareilly reported very dense fog with visibility dropping to 25 meters. Jhansi, Kanpur, and Shahjahanpur recorded very dense fog with visibility at 500 meters, while Meerut and Gorakhpur reported moderate fog with 200 meters visibility at 8:30 am on Monday.

Muzaffarnagar and Meerut recorded the lowest minimum temperatures at 3.6 degrees Celsius in the state, with other regions like Churk, Fatehgarh, Najibabad, and Fatehpur also witnessing a drop in temperatures. Fatehgarh recorded a maximum day temperature of 9.7 degrees Celsius, significantly below the normal range, while Kanpur experienced a maximum of 10.2 degrees Celsius, indicating a deviation of 9.9 degrees Celsius below normal.
