Vande Bharat Sleeper Train: Indian Railways is set to usher in a new era of overnight train travel with the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. For the first time, the iconic Vande Bharat Express, known for its high-speed chair car services, will introduce a sleeper version to run between Delhi and Patna via Prayagraj, catering to long-distance travellers.
Launch Timeline
The Sleeper Vande Bharat Express is scheduled to begin operations by September 2025, just ahead of Diwali. With its advanced design and premium features, it is expected to attract a wider passenger base than even the Rajdhani Express.
Modern Facilities
The new sleeper train comes equipped with a range of modern amenities, including:
- CCTV surveillance for safety
- LED display screens
- Automatic doors
- Advanced fire safety systems
- Public announcement and visual information systems
These additions are aimed at enhancing both comfort and security, offering passengers a truly world-class travel experience.
Speed and Technology
Built by BEML using Integral Coach Factory (ICF) technology, the Vande Bharat Sleeper is designed to run at a top speed of 180 km/h, significantly reducing travel time on busy routes. A trial run has already been conducted, and the prototype has been shifted to Delhi’s Shakarpur depot for further processing.
Ticket Pricing
The Indian Railways has confirmed that fares for the sleeper service will be 10–15% higher than the Rajdhani Express, justified by its upgraded features and faster travel times.
Expansion Plans
Alongside the sleeper launch, Indian Railways also announced plans to increase coaches on existing Vande Bharat Express routes, responding to the growing passenger demand and high occupancy rates.
The arrival of the Vande Bharat Sleeper marks a major step in modernizing India’s long-distance rail network, promising passengers a blend of speed, safety, and luxury like never before.
