In a major boost to rail connectivity between Bihar and the national capital, the Indian Railways is set to launch a Vande Bharat Sleeper Train on the Patna–Delhi route. The upcoming service is expected to significantly cut travel time while offering enhanced comfort for long-distance passengers, especially overnight travelers.
The Patna-Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper will be among the first few sleeper variants of the popular semi-high-speed train series, which so far has operated only as a chair car service during the day.
What Makes the Sleeper Vande Bharat Special?
Unlike the existing Vande Bharat trains, which operate on shorter routes with seating-only coaches, the sleeper version will include:
AC 1st Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier berths
Modern interiors with automatic doors, bio-vacuum toilets, and ambient lighting
Improved speed and ride quality, likely running at up to 130–160 km/h on select stretches
Route and Stops (Expected)
While the Indian Railways has yet to officially announce the final schedule, the train is expected to operate on the Patna–New Delhi main route, possibly halting at key stations like:
Patna Junction
Ara
Buxar
Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (Mughalsarai)
Varanasi
Prayagraj
Kanpur Central
New Delhi
Final stoppages and timings will be confirmed once the route is officially notified by Indian Railways.
Fare Structure
The fare is expected to be higher than regular Rajdhani or mail/express trains, in line with the premium services and faster travel time offered by Vande Bharat trains. Tentative pricing for Patna to Delhi may range as follows:
AC 3-Tier Sleeper: ₹2,000–₹2,400
AC 2-Tier Sleeper: ₹3,000–₹3,600
AC 1st Class: ₹4,500–₹5,000
(Exact fare details will be published closer to the train’s launch.)
Though no official date has been declared, the Patna–Delhi Vande Bharat Sleeper is expected to be launched in late 2025 or early 2026, as Indian Railways expands its Vande Bharat fleet with new sleeper models being built at Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
