The West Bengal government has announced a series of new regulations for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, including a ban on the sale of liquor on Maha Ashtami. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said liquor shops and bars across the state will remain closed on the day.

The government has also prohibited the use of DJ music and loud music systems during immersion processions, citing the need to maintain order and preserve the traditional character of the festival.
Suvendu Adhikari: Liquor Sale Banned on Maha Ashtami
Announcing the new guidelines at a coordination meeting with Durga Puja committees in Kolkata, Adhikari said there would be a complete ban on liquor sales across West Bengal on Maha Ashtami.
The restriction will apply to liquor shops and bars, making the festival’s eighth day a designated dry day across the state.
DJ Music Prohibited
The government has also decided to prohibit DJ music during Durga Puja-related processions, particularly during idol immersion. The move is aimed at reducing noise and ensuring that celebrations do not cause unnecessary disruption to residents and traffic.
Officials have also issued guidelines concerning immersion arrangements and the use of roads during the festival.
Suvendu Adhikari Issues Appeal to Puja Committees
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari urged Puja committees to ensure that their pandals, idols and themes do not hurt religious sentiments or disrespect Sanatan traditions.
The government has also introduced other changes for this year’s Durga Puja, including restrictions on blocking roads for celebrations and changes to the traditional Durga Puja Carnival arrangements.
