Manish Kashyap, popular YouTuber from Bihar, was arrested on Saturday morning. The Bihar and Tamil Nadu police have filed several cases against him for allegedly making up fake videos of Bihari migrant workers in the southern state. The third arrest in this case happened today.
After the Bihar Police and its Economic offences Unit arrived at his home to seize his property, Kashyap was arrested by police at the Jagdishpur police station of Bettiah in the West Champaran district. He later turned himself in. He is charged with spreading fake and deceptive movies regarding Bihar residents working in Tamil Nadu.
“Kashyap, wanted by Bihar Police and Tamil Nadu Police in fake news matter of labourers issue in the southern state, surrendered before the police on Saturday fearing arrest and attachment of his belongings,” a statement issued by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police said.
On the grounds of “playing in spreading false videos of migrants being killed and beaten up in Tamil Nadu on social media,” the EOU has filed three complaints against Kashyap and others.
After obtaining arrest warrants for Manish Kashyap and Yuvraj Singh Rajput on March 15, the state police established a special team and carried out raids in other states to apprehend them.
“Six teams constituted by the EOU along with Patna and Champaran Police were continuously conducting raids on his locations at various places and hideouts since yesterday (Friday). He surrendered at Jagdishpur police station of Bettiah on Saturday, fearing arrest and other legal action,” the police statement added.
All of Manish Kashyap’s bank accounts were frozen earlier when the police discovered evidence of financial irregularities against him (also known as Tripurari Kumar Tiwari). Officials had also accused him of tweeting a phoney photo of his arrest on his official Twitter account in order to propagate false information.
On March 6, the EOU filed its first FIR in the case and arrested four people, including Kashyap.
Aman Kumar from Jamui has been taken into custody
Aman Kumar from Jamui has already been taken into custody by EOU officials as part of their investigation into the initial Complaint. Aman Kumar, Rakesh Tiwary, Yuvraj Singh Rajput, and Manish Kashyap were among those listed in the FIR.
The EOU investigation found that 30 fake videos of migrants being beaten and killed in Tamil Nadu were widely shared on social media, causing panic among the labourers and forcing them to flee the southern state, according to JS Gangwar, Additional Director General of Bihar Police (Headquarters). He revealed this to reporters last week.
13 cases have also been filed by the Tamil Nadu Police to investigate the situation.
