Agra–Aligarh Greenfield Expressway to Boost Connectivity and Cut Travel Time to One Hour

Once the court grants permission, the construction agency will be required to plant ten times the number of trees cut, ensuring environmental balance.

A new Greenfield Expressway is being developed to connect Agra and Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, marking another major step in improving regional road infrastructure. The 65-kilometer-long expressway will pass through Hathras district, drastically reducing travel time between the two cities to just one hour. This project is expected to save both time and fuel, while easing congestion on existing routes.

Environmental Clearance and Tree Plantation Plan

For the construction of the expressway, 136 trees will need to be cut. These trees have already been marked, and a detailed report will be submitted to the Supreme Court for approval. Once the court grants permission, the construction agency will be required to plant ten times the number of trees cut, ensuring environmental balance. A team from the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) will then inspect the project site and submit its findings to the Supreme Court before final clearance is given.

Project Phases and Route Details

The first section of the expressway will extend from National Highway 509 in Aligarh to Asroi, near the Hathras border, while the second phase will connect Khandauli in Agra to the Yamuna Expressway. According to media reports, the second phase is expected to be completed soon and opened to the public thereafter.

Economic and Regional Impact

Once operational, the Agra–Aligarh Greenfield Expressway will significantly enhance trade, tourism, and local mobility across central Uttar Pradesh. It will offer smoother access to key economic hubs and tourist destinations, including the Taj Mahal, while improving logistics efficiency for industries based in the Aligarh–Hathras belt.

The project aligns with the Uttar Pradesh government’s vision to strengthen road connectivity and promote balanced regional development across the state.
