Apple A17 Pro vs A16: When Apple unveils a new chipset, it is generally praised with worldwide thrill. The A17 Pro received a lot of attention this year. But how does it compare to its forerunner, the A16 Bionic? In this article, we will compare both of these chipsets and see if you should upgrade or not.
Apple A17 Pro vs A16
Chip design process | 4nm | 3nm |
Transistors | 16 billion | 19 billion |
Memory | 6GB | 8GB |
Neural Engine | 16-core, up to 17 trillion operations per second | 16-core, up to 35 trillion operations per second |
GPU | 5-core | 6-core |
CPU | 6-core | 6-core |
All about the A17 Pro
Apple’s A17 Pro boasts 19 billion transistors and is built on TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm processing technology, which offers a smaller transistor size and so allows for more transistors to be packed in to maximise performance and battery efficiency. It is powered by a 6-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four power-efficient cores. The A17 Pro includes a new 6-core GPU that improves graphics performance with hardware ray tracing and battery efficiency.
A16 Bionic
The Apple A16 Bionic chip, which was released in 2022 last year, is constructed on the 4nm process node. It has a 6-core CPU with two performance cores and four high-efficiency cores. The A16 Bionic’s 5-core GPU contains 6GB LPDDR5 memory, which provides 50% more bandwidth than the previous generation Bionic chip. Finally, the A16 Bionic’s new 16-core neural engine can perform 17 trillion operations per second.
