Apple announces RCS messaging for iPhone, Here is how it will affect users

Apple: Apple has officially said that it will support Rich Communication Services (RCS) messaging on iPhones by 2024, after years of opposition. This move follows persistent attempts by rivals like Samsung, Google, and others to get Apple to use the technology. Read on to learn more.

Apple to adopt RCS

In comparison to SMS or MMS, Apple believes that RCS is a better solution for cross-platform messaging exchange, according to a statement sent to 9to5Mac by an Apple representative.

The Apple spokesperson stated, “Later next year, we will be adding support for RCS Universal Profile, the standard as currently published by the GSM Association. We believe RCS Universal Profile will offer a better interoperability experience when compared to SMS or MMS. This will work alongside iMessage, which will continue to be the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.”

Pressure from rivals like Google and Samsung is thought to have influenced Apple’s decision to adopt RCS. The European Union’s Digital Markets Act, which Google urged the EU to push Apple towards adopting the RCS messaging standard, and other regulator pressure, notably from that source, played a part.

What is RCS?

Chats with Rich Communication Services (RCS) offer an enhanced rich messaging experience. The standard SMS message has been improved using RCS. Google or your cellphone provider offer RCS conversations. RCS is accessible via your phone’s built-in messaging software.
The majority of Android phones support the RCS messaging protocol. Compared to the present SMS or MMS services, Apple‘s use of RCS will improve compatibility. The new function will be compatible with iMessage, which Apple guarantees will remain the greatest and safest messaging app for its customers.
