Elon Musk: Recently, Apple, Disney and IBM announced to stop advertising for their companies on X (formerly Twitter). The companies took this step responding to the concerns of Social media platform’s content moderation and Elon Musk’s promotion of antisemitic posts on the platform. Check out more details about the news below.

Apple decided to not advertise on X after Elon Musk engaged with an antisemitic post and agreed on a antisemitic conspiracy theory on the social media platform. As per reports, the tech giant took this decision after a group of 164 Jewish activists and Rabbis called on Apple, Google, Disney and Amazon to pause advertising on X and they also requested Google and Apple to remove X from their app stores.

Apple Paused Ads on X

Following the Apple’s decision, Disney and IBM also announced that they will stop advertising on X from now onwards. These companies also cited the concerns about the concerns of content moderation and possibility of their ads coming next under the hate speech and antisemitic posts. IBM mentioned in a statement that they had ” zero tolerance for hate speech and discrimination” and that it would “immediately suspend all advertising on X while we investigate this entirely unacceptable situation.”

A Dispute on Musk Ownership of X

These companies have taken this step amid a big backlash against Elon Musk’s ownership of the social media platform. People are increasingly blaming Elon Musk of allowing misinformation and hate speech to be openly circulated on the platform.

Musk Responds Against the Backlash

Responding to the criticism, Musk defended himself by saying that he is committed to free speech on the X (formerly Twitter). Musk also recognizes that the social media platform faces challenges in content moderation on a platform with over 330 million users worldwide.

How it will Impact X?

The recent move of Apple, Disney and IBM stopping their advertisements on X can be considered as a huge dent on X’s bussiness, as advertising remains the major source of revenue for any social media platform. While, it is unclear yet, how these companies will continue with their decisions. However, their move to stop advertising on X will defintely put pressure on Elon Musk to improve the content moderation policies for the platform.
