Apple: According to a media report on Saturday, tech giant Apple has been in talks to request permission from significant news and publishing companies to use their content in the company's development of generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) systems.
Apple reportedly plans to use news to help train its AI
The corporation is reportedly in talks to licence news archives for at least $50 million (Rs. 417 crore) over multiyear deals, according to The New York Times.
Certain publishers expressed optimism about the proposed terms, but others, who were approached by Apple, had worries about how expansive they thought they were.
A broad licence of publishers' published content archives is included in the original pitch, which may hold publishers legally responsible for any problems resulting from Apple using their content. Given its big news readership, Apple could face competitive risk as well because it has been evasive about how it intends to implement generative AI in the news sector.
Apple's attempt at AI
With the global boom in artificial intelligence (AI) and its related techniques, Apple is attempting to catch up to its competitors with this negotiation. Microsoft, OpenAI, Google, Meta, and other tech giants are already competing in the AI space and have launched chatbots and other products utilising the technology.
Apple has not made an official statement about this. The tech giant was allegedly working on AI breakthroughs earlier this month, but the corporation has never officially verified the reports.
