eBay: Following a campaign of harassment by staff members who sent live spiders, cockroaches, and other unsettling items to the home of a Natick, Massachusetts couple, online retailer eBay Inc. agreed to pay a $3 million fine to settle criminal charges.

eBay to pay $3 million to couple

eBay was accused by the Justice Department of witness tampering, stalking, and obstruction of justice in criminal information filed against the company. The accusations show how serious the harassment campaign was and how far eBay staff members would go to scare the Steiners. Executives at eBay took issue with the couple's web newsletter, EcommerceBytes, because it provided critical coverage of the corporation.

eBay has reached a deferred prosecution arrangement with the Massachusetts US Attorney's Office. If the California-based corporation complies with specific requirements, the agreement states that the accusations against it may be dropped. With the help of this resolution, eBay will be able to show its dedication to moral behaviour and stop such occurrences from happening in the future.

What did the officials say?

eBay has not yet released an official statement regarding the criminal charges. To seek compensation for the upsetting deliveries and cyberstalking that disturbed their life, the Steiners have launched a separate civil complaint against the massive online retailer.

Acting Massachusetts US Attorney Josh Levy expressed harsh disapproval of eBay's activities, calling them as "absolutely horrific, criminal conduct." In addition to the company's conscious efforts to suppress unfavourable reporting and preserve its reputation, he underlined the victims' extreme emotional suffering.
