Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner overseeing a set of legislation governing social media and search engines in Europe, including the likes of Google, X, and TikTok, called the arrangement “historic.”

In the competition to control artificial intelligence and shield the public from dangers, such as a possible threat to life, which many think the quickly advancing technology bears, the accord places the EU ahead of the US, China, and the UK.

A few specifics about the proposed law, which wouldn’t go into force until at least 2025, were given by officials.

Impact on the industry

Concerns have been raised by European businesses about how too stringent regulations could choke innovation in this quickly developing field, which gained popularity following the release of OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
