Google: Over the years, Google has made significant investments in artificial intelligence (AI). The internet giant has been heavily involved in emerging technologies, from the February launch of its AI chatbot, Bard, to the introduction of new AI-powered capabilities in Google search. The goal of the most recent Google AI update for Gmail is to fight spam. In this article, we will tell you all we know about this new AI update.
Google and its new AI update
Google's spam detection technology has undergone a significant update, as per an IANS report. It is being said that this action significantly improves defence capabilities. Known as RETVec (Resilient and Efficient Text Vectorizer), the invention represents a significant development in text classification technology that is designed to thwart "adversarial text manipulations."
Google, renowned for its ongoing investments in AI, has now focused on the spam issue with Gmail. In the battle against devious spam techniques, including emails that evade Gmail's security measures and contain special characters, emoticons, and mistakes, the recently released RETVec looks to be a game-changer.
How does RETVec work?
Modern text classification technology called RETVec, which strengthens Google's capacity to recognise and prevent sneaky spam tactics, is the main component of this update. By attaining excellent classification performance with a large reduction in processing resources needed, RETVec strengthens and optimises text classifiers.
One noteworthy aspect of RETVec is its innovative architecture, which eliminates the need for significant text preparation and allows it to function flawlessly across all languages and character sets. Because of this, RETVec can be used for a wide range of tasks, including as large-scale text classification on the web and on-device deployments.
Google emphasises that because of their compact representation, models trained with RETVec not only deliver improved accuracy but also exhibit faster inference speed. Smaller models help lower latency and processing costs—two important aspects of on-device models and large-scale applications.
Because Google released RETVec as an open-source technology, programmers can use its features to create robust and effective text classifiers for server-side and mobile applications. Google says explicitly that RETVec is already being used by the Gmail spam filter to strengthen its defences against fraudulent emails.
