Presently, QR codes are the integral part of every restaurant menus to boarding passes, they are very useful for faster and easier UPI payments. But sometimes scanning them becomes a big task in itself ,specially in the case, if they are too far away or too small to read. Now, Google recognizing this issue has started working on a new feature in Android Smartphones that will be useful in Scanning these QR in a much better pace and ease.

The New feature utilizes Google’s machine learning to detect a QR code in the camera frame, zoom in, and eventually read it automatically. This feature is not yet released for users, but it is part of the latest APIs that Google is offering to developers presently.

The all new code scanner API enables developers to utiize Google’s QR Code Scanner System App withot requesting for any permission to access camera or to build a custom experience. This API uses Google’s on-device machine learning to decipher QR codes, and the API only outputs a barcode object to the App to maintain better privacy.

The upcoming auto-zoom option cis speculated to come in the devices running Android 13 or newer, as the QR Code uses the same Machine Learning Kit Barcode Scanning library, where this feature will be added. Google may also be rolling this feature via GMS.

The performance of this new feature on low- end Android phones with below average cameras will not be so good, but it is an appreciable initiative by Google and the tech experts are eagerly waiting for its roll out for all latest android devices.
