The government has released new rules for online gaming on Thursday. Minister of State for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) Rajeev Chandrasekhar announced the new rules. The new gaming regulations prohibit any game betting on online gambling and betting platforms. At the same time, according to these rules, all online games will be determined by a Self-Regulatory Organization (SRO).
Minister of State for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that online games involving gambling or betting will come under the purview of the new online gaming rules. Minister of State Chandrasekhar said that we are working with a framework that all online gaming will be regulated by an SRO. That is, the SRO will determine whether there is gambling in the game or not. He added that there will be multiple SROs, and these SROs will have participation from all stakeholders including, but not limited to, the industry.
Minister of State for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that a self-regulatory organization will work to monitor and judge each and every game. He said that the permission would be determined on the basis of whether the app includes betting. If betting is involved, the SRO will be in a position to say that those online games are not allowed.
That is, it will be mandatory for the app to get the permission of the SRO. On the other hand, online real money games are games in which users deposit some amount with the expectation of winning. Such games will not be considered in compliance with the Online Gaming Rules.
