Noida News: With the opening of its Noida plant on Thursday by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, homegrown Dixon Technologies, an electronic manufacturing services firm, will manufacture Xiaomi devices. Based on an investment of Rs 256 crore, Padget Electronics, a Dixon Technologies subsidiary, has announced that it will produce Xiaomi smartphones at its newly created Noida facility.

Dixon to make Xiaomi smartphones

The new facility spans 270,000 square feet and can produce 25 million phones a year. Within the following year, the company plans to build a new factory that will span one million square feet and be used to produce IT hardware and smartphones.

For the October–December quarter, Dixon has already started producing Xiaomi smartphones. This development follows Xiaomi’s announcement in May of a partnership with Dixon for the production and export of mobile phones.

What did the officials say?

Dixon Technologies Executive Chairman Sunil Vachani said, “It is a momentous step towards our commitment to boosting the local smartphone manufacturing ecosystem in India. We believe that this association will leverage our excellence and superior execution and Xiaomi’s expertise and leadership in the Indian business ecosystem.”

“We have seen complex manufacturing at the new Dixon facility which is an answer to those who say India is only assembling phones and not manufacturing them,” said IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The Minister of Information Technology also praised India’s rise to prominence as a hub for smartphone exports.
