Tim Cook : Sony Sensors have been a feature of iPhones for over a decade

Apple CEO Tim Cook acknowledged that the iPhones have been utilising Sony camera sensors for over  decade during a visit to Sony’s camera development centre in Kumamoto, Japan. Cook also spoke extensively about Apple’s  partnership with Sony.

Tim Cook reveals iPhone has Sony Sensors

He expressed thanked the entire staff for introducing him to Kumamoto’s state-of-the-art facilities. This was a unique occurrence and the first time the tech giant openly disclosed information about the parts used in an iPhone.

Given that the relationship between the iPhone manufacturer and Sony has been going strong for more than a decade, it is possible that the iPhone models from 2023 will also include Sony camera sensors.

Prior to this, neither Apple’s use of Sony sensors in iPhones nor rumours that Apple was also producing Sony hardware were ever made public. However, a 2015 Wall Street Journal article said that Apple used two Sony sensors in the iPhone 6.

Additionally, according to reports, almost 70% of iPhones have iOS 16, which was launched in September, installed, compared to almost 25% of iPhones with iOS 15.

After over 100 days following the release of the most recent version of iOS, 68.90% of iPhones are running iOS 16, compared to only 24.82% of iPhones using iOS 15. 7 percent of iPhone models are using earlier versions of iOS.
