Twitter amnesty to suspended accounts begins next week, says Elon Musk

Twitter amnesty: Elon Musk has said that Twitter will grant a “general amnesty” to suspended accounts starting next week. He announced the decision on Friday after he held a poll on the microblogging site asking users whether suspended accounts that “have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam” should be granted amnesty.

3.16 million users vote

More than 3.16 million users participated in the poll out of which more than 72.4 per cent voted in favour of bringing back the suspended accounts.

Once the poll was over, the new Twitter owner said, “The people have spoken. Amnesty begins next week. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”

About a week ago too he made a similar tweet when he reinstated the Twitter account of former US President Donald Trump. Trump, however, has said he won’t return to Twitter but his account still remains on the site.

Content moderation council

Last month, Musk said Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints”. “No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” he added.

Musk took over reigns of Twitter less than one-month back but the period has been marked with change and chaos as he laid off half the company’s 7,500-person workforce, fired top executives, and then instituted a series of ultimatums that prompted hundreds more to quit.
