Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiradaitya Scindia flags off the DigiYatra at Varanasi Airport

DigiYatra:Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has flagged off DigiYatra initiative – a paperless boarding process for air passenger, at the Varanasi airport.

The program is run by NEC, which won a contract from AAI in December 2019

As part of the DigiYatra initiative, NEC was awarded a contract by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in December 2019 to implement the biometric boarding platform at Varanasi, Kolkotta, Pune, and Vijayawada airports. The most anticipated paperless boarding process for airline customers is made possible by facial recognition technology (FRT) and biometrics.

Already operational at airports in Bengaluru, Varanasi and New Delhi

The solution will make it possible for everyone to have hassle-free travel in the future without having to spend a lot of time waiting around at numerous checkpoints, such as airport arrival, security clearance, and boarding.

Digi Yatra, which is already operational at the airports in Benagluru, Varanasi, and New Delhi, will be introduced in 7 airports during the first phase. The airports in Hyderabad, Kolkotta, and Vijayawada will go live during the second phase of implementation.

With the facial recognition technology provided by the DigiYatra service, it will significantly reduce the number of times  passengers will need to physically display their passports, boarding passes, and other identification documents.

In order to use the services, passengers must register their information once on the DigiYatra app.
