Varanasi to kolkata in 7 hours, NHAI Plans 610 km Express highway, who will benefit

Varanasi-kolkata Expressway: NHAI has recently notified about their plans to build New Expressway NH319B, that will take just 7 hours to reach Kolkata from Varanasi, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is soon to start construction of this expressway, NH319B is the code name approved for this Varanasi-Kolkata Expreswa, this Expressway is going to connect two cities with States like Bihar and Jharkhand, further connecting several other cities in the region. This Expressway will be an alternative for NH19 which is presently the key express highway between Varanasi and Kolkata.

NHAI released the information about the construction of this Express highway on Friday, National Highway Authority of India said this 610 Km long expressway will connect four districts each of Bihar and Jharkhand before entering West Bengal through Purilla district. An RCD Engineer working on the project said that ” The process of land acquisition would be expedited once the NHAI gave a distinct identity to the project”.

Which States Will Benefit ?

NH19 covers the current route in 690 Km, but this Expressway will cut a long distance of 80 km between Varanasi and Kolkata, NH319B will be build on the south of NH19 and it will run parallel to it, new expressway will be a six-lane highway of 610 kilometers. NHAI have decided Chandaul as a starting point of this expressway which is located near Varanasi and it will enter Bihar at Chand and exit at Imamganj in Gaya, covering the total distance of 160 km Approx.

NHAI is also expected tp build a tunnel in the Kaimur Hills, which will be 5 Km long, then it will cross the Sone River in Tilauthu of Sasaram to enter Aurangabad, along the Grand Trunk Road, After that, Nh319B will enter Jharkhand from Hunterganj in Chatra and finally make an exit to West Bengal’s Purulia district after passing through Hazaribag and Ramgarh.

Budget Of The Project

This Expressway is expected to cost around Rs. 35000 Crore. ” The cost of construction is likely to go a bid up as the NHAI has proposed almost a straight Alignment of it,” said a Senior Officer of NHAI, based at Patna.

As per NHAI, NH319B Expressway will cut the travel time between Varanasi and Kolkata to half of NH19, which currently takes around 12-14 hours to cover the distance through NH19.
