WhatsApp to have ads?
Will Cathcart, the CEO of WhatsApp, may have revealed the platform’s plans for ads in a recent interview with a Brazilian newspaper. As per Cathcart, advertisements on WhatsApp won’t show up in the inbox; nevertheless, they might show up in other places, including Status or Networks.
As per the report, Cathcart said, “There could be ads in other places—channels or status. For example, channels might charge people to subscribe, they might be exclusive to paid members or the owners might want to promote the channel. But, no, we won’t put ads in our inbox.”
Is the feature being tested?
To be clear, Meta is not testing status ads in any country at this time, according to a spokesman. WhatsApp has remained ad-free since Mark Zuckerberg acquired the firm in 2014, in contrast to other platforms within the corporation like Instagram.
