WhatsApp Developing Private Newsletter Feature in Bid to Become Professional Platform

WhatsApp

WhatsApp: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is looking to differentiate itself from being a personal instant messaging app among the masses and become a professional platform. The company’s efforts to achieve this can be seen through the introduction of new features like the Communities feature and the ability to make video calls of 32 people simultaneously. However, a new report by WABetaInfo has revealed that WhatsApp is working on a new feature called Newsletter, which is currently in development and could be introduced soon.

WhatsApp’s Bid to Differentiate Itself as a Professional Platform

Newsletters are well-known in today’s Internet era and were especially useful during the pandemic. Although interest in them may have decreased over time, WhatsApp sees potential in this area and wants to capitalize on it. The private newsletter feature is currently in development and is not yet available to beta testers. However, WhatsApp may soon release a new update, version 2.23.5.3, under the Google Play Beta program.

The Introduction of New Features on WhatsApp

The alleged Newsletter feature will enable broadcasters to broadcast messages or information on the platform, which will be especially important for local administration, sports teams, and various other groups. Interestingly, the new feature will allow users to follow only broadcasters of their choice. The alleged newsletter feature will be offered as a private tool, and the phone number and personal information of people who create and join the newsletter will be hidden by default.

WhatsApp’s New Feature – Newsletter

The newsletter tool of WhatsApp will be a separate and optional section, beyond the Status tab and will not affect the end-to-end encryption (E2EE) of private messaging in any way. This means that all messages and calls on the platform will be protected by end-to-end encryption. There is currently no indication that any advertisements will be added to this new facility. It is unclear whether WhatsApp will name this new feature “Newsletter” or choose another name.
