Cop fired after shooting at teen at McDonald’s parking

James Brennand a police officer in San Antonio Police Department was fired after the rookie police officer shot a teenager. The teenager was eating a meal at a McDonald’s parking lot.

This incident happened last week. Now the cop has been fired for violating the department’s ‘tactics, training, and procedures.’

Notably Brennand was on probation and had joined the police department just seven months ago.

According to the police department said incident happened when Brennand was handling an unrelated disturbance call at the McDonald’s Sunday night. Brennand felt he saw a car that had evaded him a day earlier. He called for backup also.

But unfortunately before the backup could arrive he took the action. The body camera video revealed that Brennand walked up to the driver’s side of the car, opened the door and ordered the driver out. The teenager was visibly startled as he was eating.

Then he instantly put the car in reverse and started backing up. Then police opened fire five times on the car. Which critically injured the teenager.
‘He then moved the car forward following which the police fired an additional five times as the car drove away’, reports says.

“As the officer attempted to gather information from witnesses, he noticed a vehicle that had evaded him the day before as the officer attempted a stop because the registered license plate did not match the actual vehicle,” Capt. Alyssa Campos, the department’s training commander, said in a video statement.

It is worth mentioning that car, driven by Cantu, was not the subject of the disturbance call at the McDonald’s, revealed by Campos.

Brennand alleges that the car first hit him when it was being reversed and the teenager was charged with evading detention in a vehicle and assaulting the officer. News agency the San Antonio Current in its report said the bodycam video does not suggest Brennand was hit and fired for no apparent reason.

‘The teenager’s defence attorney Brian Powers said the Bexar County district attorney’s office informed him on Friday that prosecutors would not be moving forward with charges against his client’, CNN reported.
