Delhi Viral Video: Empowerment or Judgement? 19-Year-Old DU Student Replaced Last Minute for Wearing Sleeveless Kurti, Netizens Divided

A DU student’s last-minute replacement at a Women’s Youth Parliament event over her sleeveless kurti has gone viral, sparking a debate on empowerment vs judgment.

Delhi Viral Video: A 19-year-old Delhi University student was unexpectedly removed just before felicitating a Union Minister at a Women’s Youth Parliament event in Delhi after an official objected to her sleeveless kurti. The incident, which took place during an event themed on “Nari Shakti,” has gone viral and sparked a strong debate online about dress codes, judgement, and the true meaning of women empowerment.

What Happened?

A recent incident from Delhi has gone viral and triggered a heated debate on social media. Saarah Sharma, a 19-year-old student from Daulat Ram College, Delhi University, was invited to felicitate Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya at a Women’s Youth Parliament event held on 12 April 2026 at SRCC.The event was organized by Mera Yuva Bharat  and focused on the theme “Nari Shakti: Viksit Bharat ki Awaaz Strengthening Inclusive Democracy,” highlighting the importance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. However, just before she was about to go on stage, an official reportedly stopped her and replaced her with another student, citing her sleeveless kurti as inappropriate for the occasion.

Dress Code Debate Sparks Controversy

The incident quickly spread online, with many questioning whether the decision was fair in an event centered around women’s empowerment. While some users supported the organizers’ call for a “formal traditional look,” others called it unnecessary judgment over personal clothing choices. Netizens argued that when the theme itself celebrates Nari Shakti, such restrictions send mixed signals about freedom and empowerment.

Public Reaction: Empowerment or Double Standards?

Delhi Viral Video: Social media platforms were flooded with reactions. One group believes maintaining decorum and uniformity in official events is important. Another group feels that judging a student based on sleeve length contradicts the idea of women empowerment being promoted on stage. The incident has now turned into a larger conversation about how “tradition,” “professionalism,” and “personal choice” are interpreted in public institutions.
