About Mahavatar Narsimha
Released on July 25, 2025, and directed by debutant Ashwin Kumar, Mahavatar Narsimha is the first film in a planned seven-part Mahavatar Cinematic Universe. The story follows the demon brothers Hiranyaksha and Hiranyakashipu, born to Diti, who defies cosmic warnings. Trained by Shukracharya, they challenge the gods. Hiranyaksha is defeated by Vishnu’s Varaha avatar, while Hiranyakashipu gains a boon from Brahma, declares himself a god, and oppresses Vishnu’s devotees. His son Prahlad’s devotion triggers the emergence of Vishnu’s Narsimha avatar, who restores cosmic order.
The film premiered at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in November 2024 and was released theatrically in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. With a runtime of 131 minutes (141 minutes at IFFI), it has been praised for its rich CGI and compelling storytelling.
After its theatrical success, Mahavatar Narsimha is expected to premiere on JioHotstar in Hindi, while other language versions may stream on different platforms. It has become one of 2025’s most profitable and talked-about films.
