English Vinglish: The late Sridevi's iconic film English Vinglish has found a new audience. The 2012 film by Gauri Shinde will release in China on February 24. The date has significance as it marks Sridevi’s fifth death anniversary.

English Vinglish marked Sridevi’s return to screens after 15 years and was critically acclaimed. It got very good response from audience too.  The Hindi film which was directorial debut of Gauri Shinde, will be shown in 6,000 theatres on the Chinese mainland. Back in 2021 at its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival, the film received a five-minute standing ovation from the audience.

English Vinglish completed 10 years in 2022

With Sridevi in the lead role, the film English Vinglish also starred Adil Hussain, Sumeet Vyas, Priya Anand, Sulabha Deshpande, and French actor Mehdi Nebbou in key roles. It went on to earn commercial success as well as critical acclaim. The film which completed 10 years in 2022, which will release in Chinese theatres now.

Sharing the news on Twitter, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh said that the film will release in theatres on February 24 which marks Sridevi’s fifth death anniversary.

Sridevi's comeback film

The film marked Sridevi's comeback to films after a long hiatus of 15 years. English Vinglish became India's official entry to the Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category for 2013. The story of the film chronicles Sridevi as a housewife who decides to take up English lessons in the US after being mocked by her husband and daughter. Later, after taking classes to learn the language, the actress gives a fabulous speech towards the end, which just sums up the synopsis of the story.
