An old interview clip of Diljit Dosanjh saying he has no interest in Bollywood has resurfaced online, and the timing couldn’t be more controversial. The viral video comes just as his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3 is set to release overseas, skipping Indian cinemas entirely.
In the throwback video, Diljit is seen clearly stating that he prefers music over films and has no ambition to make it big in Bollywood. He said he doesn’t need anyone’s approval to create music and isn’t bothered about working in the Hindi film industry.
What Diljit Dosanjh Said In Now-Viral Video
In his chat with Film Companion, Diljit said in Hindi, “Mujhe kaam karna bhi nahi hai Bollywood mein. Koi ichha bhi nahi hai ki main Bollywood me bahot mahaan kalakaar bann jaoon. Main music ko pyaar karta hoon.”
He explained how music gives him freedom and films don’t. He added, “Bina kisi ki marzi se main music kar sakta hoon… koi banda hume rok nahi sakta hai.”
The singer-actor (who became the first Indian to perform at Coachella) said music is God’s work and no one can stop him from creating it. He said, “Bollywood me toh kaam mile ya na mile, ratti bhar parwaah nahi.”
Bollywood associations have reportedly threatened to impose a ban on Diljit Dosanjh.
In response, Diljit said he doesn’t care about Bollywood. No interest in working in Bollywood — making it clear he’s unfazed by the industry’s pressure and will do what he feels right pic.twitter.com/CdwP8DwcK2

Sardaar Ji 3 Faces Heat Amid India-Pak Tensions
As we all know, Diljit’s latest Punjabi film is under fire due to the current India-Pakistan tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack, which led to a government ban on Pakistani artists.
The trailer featured Diljit opposite Pakistani actor Aamir, and the producers have confirmed the film will release only overseas since then. The move sparked backlash, with many accusing the team of being insensitive given the national mood.
Diljit addressed the controversy in a recent promotional interview. He said the film was shot in February, before the recent events unfolded. He said, “Jab yeh film bani thi tab situation sab theek tha… we shot this in February and then everything was fine.”
He further explained that big decisions like the release strategy are not in the actors’ hands. He added, “Producers ka bahut paisa laga hua hai… jab yeh film bann rahi thi tab aisa kuch tha nahi. If the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”
Meanwhile, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has taken things up with the government. They’ve requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to revoke Diljit’s passport and cancel his citizenship. They also labelled the filmmakers’ decision as an “anti-national” act.
Still, Sardaar Ji 3 is set to release globally on June 27, without an India release.
Additionally, Border 2 makers are under pressure to remove Diljit Dosanjh from the war drama. Let’s wait to see what happens!
