Saiyaara: ‘Sorry If I Am…’ Mohit Suri Reveals His SCARY Criteria While Choosing Female Lead Before He Finalised Aneet Padda

Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara (which released on July 18) is creating new records at the box office. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film has already crossed the lifetime earnings of Sikandar and Sky Force in its first week.

It will soon beat the collection of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the film is rewriting success stories for debut actors.

Mohit Suri On Box Office Success

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Mohit Suri spoke about his thoughts on box office performance.

He said, To be honest, I’ve always believed that a hit film allows you to keep doing what you love. I’ve been making films for years, and I enjoy my work just as much as I did 10 years ago when we first met. Box office numbers are very important because they give you the chance to continue living this life and making movies. Am I greedy about money? Not really. But I do understand that films need to make money so that people keep trusting you with more projects. That’s the balance I want to maintain throughout my career.”

On Casting Aneet Padda In Saiyaara

The director also revealed how difficult it was to cast the right actress for Vaani Batra in Saiyaara. Aneet Padda eventually won the role with her natural performance.

He shared, “It took 4, 5 months to find this girl. Sorry if I\’m not sounding too politically correct. One thing that was scary was that I wanted a young 20- to 22-year-old girl who had not done anything cosmetically to her face or body, and that\’s difficult to find in today\’s day and age. Can you imagine? I didn\’t think it would be that big a requirement. But it was.”

He added, “That was a major requirement. I didn\’t expect it to be such a big requirement. Not only that, I needed someone who felt real, someone who hadn\’t something to themselves. She had done some work before, and she was brilliant at it. She just fit right in. We often have the wrong idea of what small-town India is like – they\’re actually more conventionally \’out there\’ than we are. She had more to share with me than I had with her.”

Suri also praised casting director Shanoo Sharma for suggesting Aneet Padda, calling her the perfect choice for the role.

For the unversed, Saiyaara has already crossed Rs 130 cr in just five days and is expected to enter the Rs 150 cr club within its first week. It stars Ahaan Panday opposite Aneet in the film.
