Dharmendra turns 87: When the actor became Dilawar Khan Kewal Krishn to marry Aisha Bi

Dharmendra: Dharmendra, who turns 87 today on December 8, has been an adorable actor, winning hearts with his impeccable acting, immaculate style and humble nature. He and Hema Malini made a charming couple on screen and off screen. Their love story was much written about as Dharmendra was already married and the couple had to go through a lot of hardships to get married and have a family.

But as they had decided to marry, the two decided to go to any length to achieve their goal come what may. Dharmendra was already married and had children from his first wife and therefore divorce was not an option for him. Dharmendra and Hema decided that the only way out was to convert to Islam to tie the knot.

According to information, Dharmendra changed his name to Dilawar Khan Kewal Krishn while Hema Malini changed hers to Aisha Bi R Chakravarty and they finally got married in 1980. Love would make you do strange things, isn’t it?

Soon after the couple got married, Hema Malini gave birth to their daughter Esha Deol in 1981. The second daughter Ahana Deol was born in 1985.

Special note for Dharmendra

In a birthday message to Dharmendra, Hema Malini shared a special message for the actor on social media. She wrote:

Praying for dear Dharam ji’s good health on his birthday today❤️ Wish him a long and healthy life filled always with happiness and joy! My prayers will be with him today and every day of our lives🙏HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the love of my life❤️❤️

Hema spills the beans

In one of the episodes on Indian Idol where Hema Malini made an appearance, she opened chapters from her past about the time when she started dating Dharam. She shared how her father tried his best to keep the two separated. She said, “Usually my mother or my aunt would accompany me on shoots. But during the shoot of one of my songs, my father accompanied me. He was worried that I and Dharam ji would spend time alone because he knew we were friends.”

She concluded by saying, “I remember this when we used to travel in a car, my father would immediately sit next to me. But that didn’t stop Dharam ji from sitting in the seat right next to us.”
