Heart Health Medicines
Dr. Aggarwal said Dispirin 325mg (blood thinner), Atorvastatin 40 mg (a medicine to stabilize plaque and prevent worsening) and Clopidogrel 75 mg (antiplatelet) must be immediately administered in the case of a heart attack. He suggested Dispirin must be chewed as it helps faster absorption and faster antiplatelet effect.
The medicines must be considered only if a heart attack is suspected in a patient that shows symptoms like shortness of breath, sudden and severe chest pressure or pain, lightheadedness or fainting, vomiting, nausea or sweating.
The three medicines belong to a group of antiplatelet and antihyperlipidemic agents that are used to treat heart attacks. They inhibit the body’s ability to produce bad cholesterol, enhances its ability to produce good cholesterol and reduce the levels of cholesterol and lipids. The combination of Aspirin + Atorvastatin + Clopidogrel is also effective to prevent and treat chest pain and stroke as they reduce the risk of blood clots forming in the blood vessels. They are also helpful to manage hyperlipidemia by preventing blood clot formation and regulating elevated blood lipid levels.
The medicines are contraindicated to individuals with known allergies to Aspirin, Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel or those having asthma, diabetes, heart disease, or severe liver or kidney issues.
