What is CPR?

An emergency procedure used during respiratory or cardiac arrest, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) involves chest compressions (pressing on the chest over the heart) and rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to keep the flow of blood active in the body.

How to Give CPR?

Start by placing your hand at the center of the affected individual’s chest. Thereafter, you need to place the other hand’s palm on top and press down by 2.0-2.5 inches (5-6 cm) at a steady rate of 100-120 compressions a minute. Two rescue breaths are vital after every 30 chest compressions.

Then, you are required to tilt the head of the affected individual gently and lift the chin up with two fingers before pinching the individual’s nose. Then, you need to seal your mouth over their mouth and blow at a steady and firm pace for about 1-2 seconds. In the meanwhile, you need to check if their chest rises; give 2 rescue breaths. Thereafter, you need to continue with cycles of 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths before the affected person starts recovering or emergency help arrives.
