The 71st Miss Universe pageant is set to take place on January 14, with over 80 contestants from around the world competing for the title, including India's Divita Rai. Harnaaz Sandhu, the current Miss Universe, will crown the winner and make way for her replacement. Rai dressed up as 'Sone ki Chidiya' in an exquisite golden costume for the National Costume round. Designed by Abhishek Sharma, she donned a dress that was "inspired by the ethereal portrayal of India as the golden bird, which is a sign of the wealth of our rich cultural legacy combined with the spiritual essence of living in harmony with diversity".

Sharma described it as "a true depiction of our country," telling a news agency. "Our country is so different in terms of culture, customs, and ethics. As a result, it was critical to bring all of these elements together in a seamless manner. We went with the idea of India being known as 'Sone ki Chidiya,' or the 'Golden Bird,' this time. In some ways, it embodies the tranquilly, purity, and spirituality of our country in a modern context." He explained that when he first started thinking about the costume, he had a few important ideas in mind. "A few of them included purity, tranquilly, and something that represented us as a whole rather than any specific clan or community," he explained.
Designer described the ensemble
The gorgeous ensemble has vivid gold metallic hand decorations that are "a true representation of the finest craftsmanship of our artisans," according to the designer. He continued, "The golden colour of the costume not only symbolizes gold as an element but also the purity that is gold's inherent value. Her clothing is an elaborate work of pearl embroidery that emphasizes the idea's delicacy and felinity. Our country, despite its rich diversity, is sculpted into one, just as gold in its purest form is incredibly soft and easy to shape."
