Case Against Satyender Jain Fake, Politically Motivated, Says Kejriwal

Aam Aadmi Party national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday lashed out against the Centre on the arrest of his minister Satyendar Jain by the Enforcement Department (ED), saying the case is “completely fake and politically motivated”.

Breaking his silence on Jain’s arrest, Kejriwal said that the AAP is an honest political party and that he himself would have taken action against Jain if there were even one per cent substance in the case.

“I have studied the case against Jain. We have faith in the judiciary. Jain is following the path of truth, and he will come out clean,” the chief minister told reporters during an inspection of a road development programme of his government.

Kejriwal said that AAP is committed to weeding out corruption, which is why his party in Punjab took action against the health minister of the state after corruption charges were levelled against him.

“Nobody knew about it, no minister, none of the central agencies nor the media. We could have kept it under the rug if they wanted,” said the CM.

“We don’t wait for any agency, we take action ourselves, many actions taken by Central agencies are influenced by politics”, he told the media adding that Satyendra Jain’s case is completely false and he has been caught in a “political web”. Kejriwal said that he believes in the judicial system, and Jain will be released soon.

Jain, who holds the portfolios of health, power and home, was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case on Monday evening. The case is based on a CBI first information report lodged against the AAP leader in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act where he was accused of having laundered money through four companies allegedly linked to him. Last month, the ED provisionally attached immovable properties worth Rs 4.81 crore belonging to these companies.
